CL term

Lugaro cell
http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/CL_0011006

Suggested revision of textual definition

A GABAergic interneuron located in the cerebellum, just beneath the Purkinje cell layer. These cells have a fusiform (spindle-shaped) body that tapers at both ends (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lugaro_cell)(https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/cne.903010407). They possess thick, horizontally oriented dendrites that extend from opposite poles of the cell body. These dendrites travel along the boundary between the Purkinje layer and the granular layer, making contact with multiple Purkinje cells (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lugaro_cell)(https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9694235/). The axons of Lugaro cells project mainly in the molecular layer and emit collaterals into the granular layer. They form synapses with other inhibitory interneurons such as basket, stellate, and Golgi cells.
