CL term

intestinal crypt stem cell
http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/CL_0002250
A cell that is found in a zone occupying the bottom region of the crypt; provide the source of most of the cell types of the intestinal epithelium; proliferate by mitotic division; differentiates into columnar or goblet cells

Suggested revision of textual definition

GCA expert comments:
VG: goblet cells are also columnar cells, like all intestinal epithelium. I would delete the last statement. // RBC: I agree with VG. Maybe mentioning if anything that proliferate and give rise to TA cells?

Suggested revised def:
A stem cell located in epithelium the based of the crypt of Lieberkuhn. Division of these cells serve both to maintain the stem cell population and produce the transit amplifying cells that are all precursors of all cell types that populate the intestinal epithelium.
