Description of issue

Hi, writing my first formula, for a Python software that I forked - Geeknote (Evernote CLI).

I receive this error on

brew install --HEAD ./geeknote.rb

before publishing to Brew I want to test it.

The Geeknote works as expected on my Gentoo Linux - I wrote the ebuild for it.

Alongside with the error - please review, Linux is my main system, I am not experienced with Brew, I do not know code styles, best practices, etc.

You have a few issues. brew install --HEAD ./geeknote.rb will not work, and is the error you are encountering. Just run brew install geeknote. Additionally, you're passing --HEAD without it defined, so that also won't work. Finally, if you plan to host this in your own tap, that's fine, but this would not be accepted into homebrew-core. We do not allow self-submissions, have notability requirements, and generally do not allow forks.

But without HEAD I am getting the same error:

As the error message says, brew install doesn't support installation from random URLs. Create a new tap with brew tap-new and put your formula in the Formula subdirectory:

brew tap-new vitaly-zdanevich/geeknote
cp geeknote.rb $(brew --repo vitaly-zdanevich/geeknote)/Formula/
brew install vitaly-zdanevich/geeknote/geeknote  # fully-qualified formula in case you have a different `geeknote` in another tap

You can then push this tap up to GitHub and tell your users to install it with the same brew install command. You want to do this because your fork fails several conditions for inclusion into Homebrew core, as @p-linnane has already mentioned. You're free to manage your tap however you want.
