I may be misunderstanding the purpose of this project - but I have an idea, and you seem to be the right people to make it happen
would it be possible to use RSS feeds that are built into some of the bigger sites (namely iTunes, Rhapsody, bandcamp, etc)? This bot could see updates from those sites and automatically add the release? If you're running a MB mirror, you could just check if an artist has an external link to a supported site, and then just check the RSS feed for new releases - and if the release is not similar to something in the database, it adds the release automatically.
Seems like something that just needs to be run on one server somewhere - but this site should really see some automation of adding releases.
