To create the manual for assistant, there are two procedures that
must be run:
qhelpgenerator manual.qhp -o manual.qch
qcollectiongenerator manual.qhcp -o manual.qhc
The input files, manual.qhp and manual.qhcp, are XML files.
File types:
.qhp -- XML input to qhelpgenerator
Defines Table of Contents, Index keywords, and html files.
The docuemntation of the .qhp file is in the Qt Documentation
accessed via assistant. Access the XML documentation via the
Index "Qt Help Project".
.qch -- Compressed help files used to generate the .qhc file
.qhcp -- XML input to qcollectiongenerator
Defines customization to the help file collection
Specifies .qhp and .qch files
.qhc -- Compressed help collection in a sqlite3 database format
Requires sqlite3 Qt plugin
The .qhp file must be manually updated every time html files, including any
supporting files such as images, are added, deleted, or changed. Additionally,
the structure of the table of contents page is defined in this file. Also,
keywords used in the index section of the Qt assistant program are defined
here.
qhelpgenerator manual.qhp -o manual.qch
The Qt Help Collection is the file that Qt assistant uses to access help pages.
The .qhcp file probably does not need to be updated when help pages are
added, deleted, or modified but the .qhc file must be regenerated after
updating the .qch file.
qcollectiongenerator manual.qhcp -o manual.qhc
After creating the .qhc file, it needs to be moved to the bin/ directory
so the us_help class and us_helpdaemon program can find it.
In some cases, an update may not appear to work. Deleting the file
~/.local/share/data/Trolltech/Assistant/manual.qhc usually will fix the
problem.
