Question regarding the integration functionality

Hi,
I hope this is the right place for asking questions.

We have recently added this integration and we are trying to figure out all the functionality. Specifically we want to be able to create GitHub branches directly from Jira.

Looking at the code I see that there is some kind of support for creating branches but I don't understand how to trigger branch creation.

My question is if it's possible to create branches in GitHub using this integration?
If not, how complicated do you think it will be to develop such function (thinking about trying to contribute)?
