Many of tasks should have dedicated PRs

Setup

  • Install wporg-parent-2021 theme via Composer
  • Create basic wp-events-2023 child theme
  • Activate child theme on root Events site
  • Update Events homepage redirect to only redirect if ! current_user_can( 'edit_posts' ), so contributors can test

Archives

  • events.wordpress.org - Show all upcoming WP events (including WordCamps, meetups, and NextGen)
  • events.wordpress.org/city/year/ - show a list of all the events in that city in that year
  • events.wordpress.org/city/event-title - show a list of all events in that city with that title, or a variation of the title (e.g., event-title-2, event-title-3, etc)

Design/Copy

  • Homepage
  • Archive pages
  • Remove the / redirect so that the site root is available to everyone

The basic functionality is done. I don't think there's anything more to do here until we get some design & marketing copy.
