Opening WRF or WPS binary layers can only be done from the Layer > Add Layer menu. I think it would also make sense to add those two buttons to the QGIS Toolbar to make it easier to open datasets. @letmaik let me know if you have any preferences about this as at the moment we only add one GIS4WRF button to open the side-dock to the 'Plugins' toolbar. If we want to extend this with an extra two buttons we may want to create a separate GIS4WRF toolbar to host all three.
